Photo Friday: Trees

Funny, I was just taking pictures of some trees yesterday. See my other blog for the full scoop on this photo Here’s a shot of a few trees that fell down during bizarre weather in NYC on Wednesday.

Photo Friday: Pink?

I don’t like pink.

I think it is because I read somewhere when I was quite young, that a study was done that actually proved that looking at the color pink makes you weak. This naturally makes the “girls wear pink” mantra chafe my feminist skin.

Cakie, on the other hand, is quite enamoured of the color. It is one of two colors he can properly identify. (The other is blue — go figure.) I’m pretty sure the root of his pink fetish is his unwavering love of a certain pink animated character of unknown animal origin. That’s ok by me, since Uniqua is a very strong female character.

So, when A was lighting the candles on my birthday cake, Cakie was gesturing excitedly toward the kitchen and yelling, “More more pink! More more pink!” Because she had only put one pink candle on the cake. Here is one pink candle along with a pink ball that happened to be in the middle of our living room when I was trying to figure out how to take a picture of the candle with my sub-par camera.

Photo Friday, And A Comment About Last Friday

Lucky charms was hard. I don’t really have one. I don’t even have the cereal. And tomorrow for my IUI, I don’t have a babysitter. So I present to you my new lucky charm:

blakefoot.jpg

That’s a Cakie foot.  The left one is particularly lucky. Some people prefer rabbits. Not me. I’m taking these feet with me to the doctor tomorrow for the first time. I haven’t had them with me before, so perhaps they’ll give me luck. I say the left one because I’m getting inseminated with babyjuice from a guy I call “Lefty” and the egg is coming out of my left ovary. So everybody cross your left fingers and your left toes and let’s get this show on the road.

PS I turned 36 today, but I prefer to call it the 20th anniversary of my sweet 16. My honey made it fun and baked me a yummilicious cake from scratch.  She’s cool like that. Someone asked me to say how it feels. Vee? It feels like this. I’m glad I’m not 35 anymore. I love my family and my home and my town. And… why the #$#%^#%& am I not pregnant yet??? But every day feels pretty much like that. 😉

PPS A funny note about last week’s photo Friday — specifically Cake’s “applepiss” shirt. (That’s octopus to those of you who didn’t see the shirt.) Today A was holding him. He pointed to her black button-down shirt and said “Issit?” “That’s my shirt,” she replied. His response, “No. No shirt. Octopus.”

Photo Friday: My Favorite Tee Shirts

I have three. I’m not sure how to re-size them, so I hope I can put all three photos on this one post.

The first two are my shirts. The Wilde one was given to me as a gift when I was in high school. Yes, folks, that would be circa 1987. My coolest friend, who eventually turned out to be my gayest, brought this back to me from a trip to Italy. It has a great Oscar Wilde quote about Narcissus in English on the top, and the same quote is reflected on the bottom in Italian. Could a cooler shirt exist?

Second features a prop. The shirt was made and given to me by a great photographer, friend, and ex-girlfriend, Joannie. The cat on the shirt is my dearly departed Moose. Feeling like a not-so-great pet mommy, I have included my cat for the first time on my blog. The real cat is my big man, Domingo Perezoso Blanco De Marzo Henry Mallery Junior. I don’t over-feed him, I swear. It is glandular. Anyway, Joannie surprised me one day while we were still dating. She had taken the shot of Moose one morning, and shortly after wanted to experiment with a tee shirt-making kit she had. Moose died in 1998. Joannie. My dear Joannie also passed away on December 5, 2006. Even when this shirt is only one thread, I will keep it.
On a lighter note, the final shirt is my favorite shirt belonging to Cakie. Not only is it cute, but when he wears it, he periodically points to his chest and says, “Applepiss.” How could I not include that?
